On 31 August 2026, the Pan-Africa Bean Research Alliance (PABRA) celebrated 30 years of transforming bean research and development across Africa. What began in 1996 as a research network has grown into a continent-wide partnership connecting scientists, farmers, seed producers, businesses, governments and development partners.
Over three decades, this collective effort has helped improve access to better bean varieties, strengthen seed systems, support nutrition and livelihoods, and position beans as more than just a staple crop—but as a driver of opportunity, resilience and food security.
