The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT is inviting applications for a Visiting PhD Researcher position under the Pan-Africa Bean Research Alliance (PABRA) and the Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI).
This exciting doctoral research opportunity focuses on bean proteomic and peptide diversity and their potential contributions to human health. The successful candidate will investigate proteins and bioactive peptides found in Phaseolus bean accessions, helping uncover their nutritional and functional properties, including compounds with promising anti-diabetic potential.
The research combines advanced proteomics, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and computational biology to identify peptide signatures linked to improved human health. Working with bean germplasm conserved in the Future Seeds Genebank in Colombia, the researcher will contribute to groundbreaking discoveries that support healthier diets and more resilient food systems.
The position offers a unique international research experience, with activities based at a PABRA project site in Kenya (or another PABRA member country) and at the Alliance headquarters in Palmira, Colombia, providing access to world-class research facilities and an interdisciplinary team of scientists.
The selected PhD researcher will receive advanced training in multi-omics data analysis, bioinformatics, and AI-based research methods while contributing to scientific publications, collaborative research, and innovations that strengthen nutrition and food security across Africa.
Researchers enrolled in a PhD programme at a recognized university in Kenya or another PABRA member country, with a background in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Food Science, Bioinformatics, or related disciplines, are encouraged to apply.
